Charlene White is the main presenter of ITV News London’s flagship 6pm programme and also presents national weekend bulletins for ITV News. An award-winning journalist with more than two decades of experience, she has built a reputation for calm, authoritative reporting and thoughtful interviews. In 2014 she made broadcasting history when she became the first Black woman to present ITV’s News at Ten, a milestone widely recognised across the UK media industry. Her work has consistently combined strong editorial judgement with an ability to connect with audiences, whether covering major breaking news or leading in-depth discussions on national issues. Over the years she has reported on some of the most significant stories shaping modern Britain, developing a trusted voice within British broadcasting.
In 2021 Charlene joined the main panel of ITV’s daytime programme Loose Women, bringing her journalistic perspective to the show’s wide-ranging debates and conversations. Her career has also included interviews with many high-profile figures across politics, music, film and literature. Political leaders she has interviewed include former Prime Ministers David Cameron, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Her work has also brought her face to face with global music icons such as Jay-Z, Kanye West and Beyoncé. Alongside them are celebrated cultural figures including Maya Angelou, Will Smith and Daniel Radcliffe. These conversations reflect the breadth of her work and her ability to move comfortably between hard news, cultural commentary and human stories.
Charlene has also presented several special programmes during moments of national and international significance. She hosted a BBC Radio special following the 7 July bombings that explored Islam in Britain and the wider impact of the attacks. She also fronted ITV London’s rolling news coverage on the day of the Woolwich attack in May 2013 and anchored a special ITV News London broadcast live from Trafalgar Square the day after Nelson Mandela’s death. Her broadcasting experience also extends to long-form live coverage, including six-hour BBC radio broadcasts from Notting Hill Carnival, Trinidad Carnival and London Fashion Week.
Earlier in her career Charlene worked as a features writer for the New York Post in Manhattan, gaining valuable international experience. She also serves as journalist in residence at the London College of Communication, where she regularly teaches and mentors students. Alongside her broadcasting work she is an engaging keynote speaker who speaks with authority on subjects such as diversity, representation and racism in modern Britain. In 2021 she presented the ITV magazine programme IRL with Team Charlene, which brought together celebrity guests, experts and young people to explore issues affecting today’s generation, including racism in the UK and its impact on young lives.
