Former Host of Channel 5’s ‘How to Be a Property Developer’
Gary McCausland was born in Belfast and grew up with his six younger brothers and sisters in a town called Dungannon during the troubles in the 70’s and 80’s.
It was in these days that Gary’s first dreams of being a property developer were born, as he recognised opportunities of building, renovating & essentially improving his environment.
Gary always wanted to work in property and chose the corporate route to lay the foundations for this ambition. He obtained an honours degree in Estate Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Accountancy from the University of Ulster and now is a Chartered Surveyor.
He worked as a Management Accountant for a year in 1992 and then as a Property Manager for Cable and Wireless, moving to London to take on a senior UK Management role (1993 – 1998). Gary eventually moved to US telecoms giant MCI and became their International Estate’s Manager (1998 – 2000) before he took his final step to another American company as their European Sales Director (2000 – 2001).
After around ten years on the corporate ladder, buying & selling literally hundreds of properties across the world, it was time to fulfil his own ambition, Gary started a property development company, Richland Developments (now The Richalnd Group), in 2002.
Gary established himself as a successful property developer within a relatively short period of time, although he acknowledged he had only just got started.
Gary took control from the outset of the purchasing, designing, building, decorating and selling of 12 townhouses, 65 apartments and 10,000 sq ft of commercial property. New developments are on-going, and the company’s profile and success continues to grow, achieving a turnover of several million per annum.
Whilst growing his property company Gary, along with his brother, opened ‘The Kingly Club’ in Soho, London. An exclusive members bar which was voted ‘Bar of the Year 2004 & 2005’ at the London Bar & Club awards hosted and televised at the Park Lane Hilton Hotel.
Approached by Channel 5 in 2004, Gary became presenter on Five’s flagship program ‘How to be a Property Developer’. Using a fly-on-the-wall approach, Gary observed two teams of hopefuls who try to accumulate as much money as possible by buying and selling property. Each team had an initial advance of £250,000 and a time limit of a year. He gave them advice, watched how they used it and in the last programme informed them of their most clever and not so clever moves!
Gary McCausland is available for conference speaking and live presenting. As well as covering all aspects of real estate and property development, Gary’s talks include leadership and management, teamwork, growth and entrepreneurship. He also hosts his own live UK-wide Property Power seminars where he teaches delegates all the secrets that could enable them to become millionaire property developers.
