Mandy Hickson is a former Royal Air Force Tornado GR4 pilot. She served three tours of duty in Iraq, flying 45 missions. Mandy started off her RAF training by flying BAE Hawk T2s, similar to the jets flown by the Red Arrows. Originally they were called the Hawker Siddley Hawk until BAE Systems started producing them in the 70’s. The hawk is still in production to this day.

Mandy Hickson 3WHaving joined the RAF in 1994, Flight Lt. Mandy Hickson was one of the RAF’s first female fighter pilots. She has over 25 years experience within aviation, operating in hostile environments, including patrolling the ‘No Fly’ zone, Drawing on her experience of calculated risk-taking, leadership, decision-making under pressure and the critical role of the human in the system, Mandy now offers motivational talks where she transfers the lessons she learned from her Tornado cockpit, whilst under the intense pressures of combat flying. Also, how she overcame many obstacles to succeed in such a demanding career.

Since leaving the RAF Mandy has trained as a Human Factors facilitator with the Civil Aviation Authority. She now uses her in depth knowledge of aviation, calculated risk taking, decision making under pressure and the critical role of the human in the system to transfer these lessons to businesses and individuals alike.
