Mike Soutar, a renowned entrepreneur, advisor, and public speaker, has earned a reputation as a trusted guide for start-up founders. Born in Scotland and raised in London, Mike began his career in journalism in Dundee. Here he crafted horoscopes for a women’s magazine. Best known as a long-standing interrogator on BBC One’s The Apprentice, Mike Soutar spent 13 years challenging candidates while also offering invaluable insights. Today, he is dedicated to mentoring aspiring leaders and building successful businesses.

In 2007, Mike Soutar co-founded Shortlist Media amidst the global financial crisis. Under his leadership, the company expanded from five employees to over 200 within five years, also becoming a powerhouse of award-winning print, digital, and live event brands. As CEO, he orchestrated the sale of Shortlist Media for a multi-million-pound sum just eight years after its founding, redefining magazine publishing in the UK and setting new benchmarks for the industry.

Mike Soutar’s ability to drive business turnarounds has left an indelible mark on prominent UK media brands. As Managing Director, he also revitalized Kiss FM in the early 2000s and transformed Smash Hits and FHM into market leaders in the 1990s. He served as editor of Maxim, one of America’s top magazines. Mike also played a pivotal role in one of the UK’s largest media acquisitions in the last two decades. His innovative strategies in business transformation continue to inspire leaders in the ever-evolving world of media.

Currently, Mike Soutar remains active in media and entertainment. He serves as a Non-Executive Director at Scottish Rugby Ltd, the Board of the Scottish Rugby Union. He is also a Trustee of the V&A in Dundee, Scotland’s leading design museum.
