Former England Spin Bowler, Captain of BBC 1’s ‘A Question of Sport’ & Star of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ & ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here’
Phil Tufnell was a team captain on BBC’s highly popular ‘They Think Its All Over’, which regularly attracted over 6 million viewers. In addition he is continuing to build his reputation on other TV programmes to coincide with his BBC radio show and many public appearances.
Affectionately known throughout the cricketing world as ‘The Cat’, Phil Tufnell has entertained many sporting crowds over the years. During recent times, Phil has been able to combine his cricketing expertise with his ‘mischievous’ and ‘laddish’ reputation and regularly enjoys the banter referring to his alleged misdemeanours.
Phil became known to an even wider audience when he became the overall winner of TV’s ‘I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here’ in which three hundred and seventy thousand pounds was raised for Leukaemia Research. His most recent foray into the reality, celebrity TV shows was in 2009, when he dusted of his top hat and tails for BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. Most would agree, he was not one of the better dancers but he stayed in the competition for weeks, probably due more to his personality, than his Paso Doble.
With still a few years of cricket to be played, Phil is looking to bring success to his club, Middlesex, as well as adding to his successful England career, whilst at the same time building a reputation and career in the entertainment world.
Phil’s career with England saw him notch up 42 tests and he saw off 121 batsmen at the crease
Over the years Phil has gained a great deal of experience in perfecting his after dinner speaking, in particular a combination of speaking and Q&A sessions, to which Phil’s personality is extremely well suited. He is always happy to give his honest, passionate, amusing and, if need be, controversial opinion on a number of topics, sport related or not.
Through his openness, Phil tends to endear himself to the audience, allowing them to relate to his past experiences, which always ensures a relaxing and very enjoyable evening.
Phil has gained a great deal of experience through his various work on television. It has included analytical punditry on Sky Sports and Channel 4, appearances on current affairs programmes, chat shows and quiz shows, ranging from A Question of Sport and Blankety Blank to TFI Friday and Soccer Am.
Ever popular as a studio guest or panellist, if the occasion is suitable, Phil will be happy to give his honest and sometimes controversial opinion on a number of topics, sport related or not.
Phil Tufnell is more than happy to make an appearance as a ‘celebrity face’ to make an evening a little extra special for both young and old. He is extremely accommodating to people who wish to discuss matters with a sporting celebrity.
