In football terms Willie Henderson in the sixties had the same appeal as any of the major pop stars of the era.
Standing at just 5′ 4 he gained the nickname Wee Willie. A boy wonder who made his Rangers debut at just 17 and ended up playing for Scotland a year later.
Willie had some eyesight difficulties and wore contact lenses the joke of the time was what a player Willie would be if only he could see. Legend has it that late on in a crucial Rangers – Celtic match he enquired on the sidelines How long to go, how long to go? Jock Stein then replied go and ask the other dugout you bloody fool – this is the Celtic bench.
Willie now runs a hotel in Lanarkshire and on match days he still works for Rangers in their Hospitality Section where he continues to light up proceedings with his stories and anecdotes. Willie is available to speak at all manner of After Dinner Speaking Events and Functions.
