Email Agent of Cameron McNeish

Cameron McNeish is an all-round mountaineer. He is a multi-award winning author, television presenter and motivational speaker. Cameron’s work has encouraged and inspired thousands of folk to take to the hills and wild places.

Born in Govan (a former shipbuilding area of Glasgow) Cameron first discovered the great outdoors when, inspired by Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. Cameron and his friends built rafts on Glasgow’s River Cart and pretended it was the mighty Mississippi.

Later, at the age of fourteen, he would hike for weekends in the nearby Campsie Fells learning the skills of hillcraft by trial and error.

He became a member of the Lomond Mountaineering Club and began rock climbing and mountaineering. During the same period Cameron was also a successful track and field athlete. He was Scottish Junior Long Jump Champion in 1968. Cameron represented Scotland on two occasions in international athletics but in his early twenties he had already realised that his future lay in the hills and wild places of the world.#

A former editor of Climber Magazine and The Great Outdoors Magazine, Cameron McNeish has written over 20 books and is now recognised as one of the UK’s leading commentators on outdoor affairs. He has led expeditions and treks to the USA, Canada, Nepal, India and Pakistan. Also, Jordan, Morocco, Guatemala, Turkey, the Caucasus of Russia and throughout Europe. However, he is happiest on his home hills of Scotland where he has climbed the Munros three times.

Commenting on his latest book, television personality Muriel Gray said: “Few people know and love Scotland better than Cameron. That after so many years of extolling its virtues with such elegance and articulacy, this smashing book proves his writing is still as fresh, observant and witty as ever. This is not just marvellous, but frankly a bit annoying.”

Cameron’s television successes include The Edge: 100 Years of Scottish Mountaineering; two six-part series of Wilderness Walks; The Adventure Show; Wild Walks and Roads Less Travelled. He now enjoys making his own films for his successful You Tube Channel.

In 2010 Cameron was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by PPA (Periodical Publishers Association) Scotland. This was for his services to magazine publishing. 2015 saw Cameron being given a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Adventure Awards.

In 2016 Cameron McNeish was presented with the Oliver Brown Award by the Scots Independent newspaper for his work in showcasing Scotland. 2018 saw Cameron as the recipient of the annual Scottish Award for Excellence in Mountain Culture. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society.

He still occasionally likes to walk the great outdoors with his wife Gina. The couple live in the shadow of the Cairngorms in the Scottish Highlands.
