Catriona Shearer is one of Scotland’s most familiar television presenters and event hosts, widely recognised for her calm authority and warm on-screen presence. Alongside her appearances on BBC Breakfast, she is a regular presenter on the BBC’s flagship news programme Reporting Scotland, where she delivers the day’s major stories to audiences across the country. Her clear delivery, natural rapport and sharp journalistic instincts have made her a trusted face on Scottish television. Away from the studio, Catriona is also an accomplished live host and awards presenter, bringing energy, humour and professionalism to events of all sizes.
Catriona began her journalism career shortly after graduating from Edinburgh Napier University in 2003. She moved to London and joined BBC Radio 5 Live, working as a journalist-producer on the station’s popular Breakfast programme. During her time there she also contributed to Drive, Midday News and the Weekend Breakfast show, gaining valuable experience in live broadcasting and fast-paced newsroom environments. Her strong interest in music also led her to work with Radio 1, where she became involved with the network’s specialist late-night music programmes, further broadening her broadcasting experience.
Her next move took her to BBC Radio Wales in Cardiff, where she worked as a producer across a wide range of programming including light entertainment, lifestyle and music shows. While in Wales she also stepped in front of the microphone to present the Saturday afternoon sports programme Sportstime. Catriona’s first on-screen presenting role came soon after with BBC Scotland’s News Weekly, an online video podcast that marked the beginning of her television career. From there she took on a variety of roles within the Glasgow newsroom, including radio producer on Newsdrive, studio producer on Scotland Live and travel reporter for Good Morning Scotland, where she also delivered television bulletins.
Catriona later expanded her broadcasting portfolio by presenting the BBC Radio Scotland quiz series Soundbiters. A passionate music fan, she regularly attends festivals and concerts and occasionally presents the Vic Galloway Show as well as the New Music Zone for BBC Scotland. Sport is another interest; she has appeared on the comedy show Only an Excuse and joined Stuart Cosgrove and Tam Cowan on the much-loved Off the Ball radio programme. Alongside her broadcasting work, Catriona is a skilled facilitator and awards host, known for her quick wit, relaxed style and ability to engage any audience.
