David Blunkett entered politics in the early 70’s when joining Sheffield City Council. He rose to being Leader of the Council in 1980 till he was elected as the Labour Member of Parliament for Sheffield Brightside in 1987. He has held three senior Cabinet positions, Education Secretary from 1997 to 2001, Home Secretary from 2001 to 2004 and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions 2005.
His is a remarkable story of achievement in the face of many challenges, both personal and political.
