Comedian, Writer & Producer, Regularly Appears on BBC Scotland’s ‘Breaking The News’ & ‘Scot Squad’ & Nominated for Best Compere at the Chortle Comedy Awards

Jay Lafferty did her first Edinburgh Fringe comedy show over six years ago. It ended up being placed 5th in the 1,000’s of reviews of the festival’s comedy shows that year. No mean feat with a line up that year which featured such stars as Sara Pascoe, Frankie Boyle, Al Murray and John Bishop to name a few. The following year she was nominated for both best compere and best show.

TV & Radio:
Jay Lafferty has established herself as one of Scotland’s top comedians. She regularly appears on Des Clarke’s Breaking The News on BBC Scotland. Jay is not only, one of the longest running guests on the show, she now acts as the stand in host, when Des goes on holiday. Jay actually featured on the front page of The New York Times after describing on the show, Theresa May’s handling of the Brexit deal.

The Edinburgh Fringe is now also part of Jay’s staple diet of comedy festivals. In 2019 her show, Jay’s Jammy was made into a series for BBC Radio Scotland.

After Covid Jay Lafferty was back. She had previously been awarded for the 2019 Scottish Comedy Awards Best Compere but in 2022 she was nominated again. This time it was the Chortle Comedy Awards, where she was also nominated as best compere.

Pole dancing is not something we ever get to see in comedy but in 2023 Jay’s Fringe show Bahookie did just that. It was a sell out, also with great reviews and a listing in the British Comedy Guides best reviewed shows. Jay is continuing the tour in 2024 and will also be doing a run at the Edinburgh Fringe in August.

Jay regularly performs and hosts at comedy clubs in the UK. Bona Fide is one such show at The Stand in Glasgow. This is where she introduces comedians to perform material which covers the evening’s theme.

Jay is also a consummate host for awards and a great comedian for comedy cabaret.
