John Pienaar has been a regular face on British television for well over twenty five years. He is known for his political journalism and for being the BBC’s Deputy Political Editor between 2015 and 2020.
Most people will remember John for his political commentary from just outside No10. He was often seen standing just outside the door in the pouring rain which never seemed to bother him.
John Pienaar currently broadcasts on News UK’s Times Radio every day between 5pm and 8pm.
John was the chief correspondent for politics on BBC Radio5 Live for many years, during which time he presented Pienaar’s Politics every Sunday am. He has hosted both the radio version of BBC’s Question Time ‘Extra Time’ and also BBC’s Daily Politics.
Starting of his political career in the early 90’s, John worked for several newspapers. These included The Independent, The Guardian and also the Press Association.
His original training as a correspondent was at the weekly newspaper, The South London Press. After gaining his foothold in the job, John became the SLP’s reporter at the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, these days known as the Old Bailey.
John is a superb and witty speaker after dinner but also an excellent choice for moderating conferences.
