Dame Kelly Holmes is a double Olympic Champion, winning gold in both the 800m and 1500m at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, and one of Britain’s most iconic athletes. A Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year and BBC Sports Personality of the Year, she has broken multiple British records and represented her country at the highest level for over a decade. Beginning her journey in the British Army, where she served as an HGV driver in the Women’s Royal Army Corps, she balanced military commitments with a rising athletics career. Over time, she established herself as one of the UK’s leading middle-distance runners, breaking British records in the 800m, 1000m and 600m, and securing multiple medals across the Olympic Games, World Championships, European Championships and Commonwealth Games.

Her defining moment came at the 2004 Athens Olympics, where she achieved an extraordinary double gold in the 800m and 1500m, cementing her legacy in British sporting history. Following her competitive career, Kelly transitioned into leadership and advocacy roles, including serving as President of Commonwealth Games England since 2009 and as Honorary Colonel of the Royal Armoured Corps Training Regiment. Her work continues to span sport, leadership and social impact, supported by numerous honorary fellowships recognising her contribution to society.

Kelly has shared her journey through media, broadcasting and public storytelling, including her powerful ITV documentary Kelly Holmes: Being Me, which explored identity, mental health and her experience of coming out publicly in 2022. She has delivered a TEDx talk titled ‘Life Discovery‘ and is a regular media contributor, including serving as a commentator for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on talkSPORT and appearing as a panellist on Loose Women. Through television, interviews and campaigns, she continues to raise awareness around wellbeing, inclusion and performance.
