Nathan Caton was born in Hammersmith, London, and raised in Greenford in West London. He attended Dormers Wells High School before studying at Richmond upon Thames College, where he developed an interest in comedy while taking A Level Drama. He later studied architecture at Anglia Ruskin University but continued performing stand-up while at university. In 2005, he won the Chortle Student Comedian of the Year award, a major early achievement that helped launch his comedy career. Although he became the first in his family to graduate from university, he chose to pursue comedy full-time rather than architecture, a decision that initially disappointed his parents but ultimately shaped his career.
Caton’s career developed quickly after his early success. He performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and appeared on ITV’s Comedy Cuts before going on to television appearances including Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week and Russell Howard’s Good News. He created and starred in the BBC Radio 4 series Can’t Tell Nathan Caton Nothing, which explored his life and his decision to pursue comedy instead of architecture. He has also been a regular voice on Radio 4’s The Now Show and has written for several programmes including Stand Up For The Week, The News Quiz, the children’s series Rastamouse and JoJo and Gran Gran. In addition to performing, he has hosted Videogame Nation and continues to tour across the UK. His awards and recognition include winning Chortle Student Comedian of the Year, being a finalist in FHM’s Stand-Up Hero and finishing runner-up at the Amused Moose Comedy Awards.
