Former Food Writer, Television Cook, Bestselling Author, Channel 4 Nigella Bites Presenter & International Food Broadcaster
Nigella Lawson is one of the UK’s most influential food writers, with an ongoing international reputation built through bestselling books and popular television series. Known for her warm, approachable style and deep love of food, she has become a familiar and trusted voice in kitchens around the world. Her Channel 4 series Nigella Bites helped define her television career and introduced her relaxed, pleasure focused approach to cooking to a wide audience. Over the years she has built a global following through her writing, broadcasting, and live appearances, becoming a respected and recognisable figure in food culture.
Born in 1960, Nigella read Medieval and Modern Languages at Oxford before beginning a successful career in journalism. She became Deputy Literary Editor of The Sunday Times and later worked as a freelance writer, contributing to publications including The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph and The Times Magazine in the UK, as well as Gourmet and Bon Appétit in the United States. Her interest in food writing began with a restaurant column for The Spectator and later a food column for Vogue, where she developed the distinctive voice that would later define her books and television work.
Her first book, How to Eat: The Pleasures and Principles of Good Food, was published in 1998 to critical acclaim and quickly established her as a major food writer. The book formed the basis of the Channel 4 series Nigella Bites, whose accompanying book remained on bestseller lists for months and helped push her worldwide book sales into the millions. In 2000 she published How to Be a Domestic Goddess, which introduced a new generation to baking and comfort cooking, and that same year she was named Author of the Year at the British Book Awards.
Nigella has continued to write, broadcast and appear internationally, with television series including Simply Nigella, Nigellissima, Nigella Feasts, Nigella Express and Nigella’s Christmas Kitchen. She has also appeared as a judge and mentor on The Taste in both the UK and US, and as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia. A charismatic and engaging speaker, she appears at events around the world for hosting, fireside conversations and personal appearances, speaking on food and drink, beauty, arts and culture.
