Ryan McCuaig is a Scottish solicitor, activist, inspirational and motivational speaker. He is also a media commentator from Glasgow, Scotland.

Ryan McCuaig HolyroodRyan was born and raised in Easterhouse, Glasgow, one of the UK’s most deprived areas. After experiencing state intervention early in his childhood due to parental addiction and poverty, Ryan overcame significant personal, financial and social barriers, including school exclusion, to graduate from the University of Strathclyde with a first-class law degree. He subsequently completed a post-graduate diploma at the University of Glasgow, for which he was awarded a Talent Scholarship, and before training and qualifying as a solicitor, a profession which remains one of the most socially exclusive in the UK.

On the 8th July 2022 The Law Society of Scotland held their Admission Ceremony at Edinburgh’s Signet Library which officially marked Ryan’s full qualification as a solicitor. The event should have been held in 2020/21 but was delayed due to Covid.

Ryan McCuaig is now a Senior Associate at a large commercial law firm and is dual qualified as a lawyer in two jurisdictions.

An award-winning advocate for social mobility, Ryan also has significant experience as a charity director, having chaired the board of a major Scottish charity for four years and sat on the boards of two others.

Ryan regularly delivers keynotes and engaging sessions at conferences in person or over virtual platforms such as Zoom where he outlines how a series of positive relationships helped him overcome significant early adversity to graduate in the top grading of his class in law school.

Now a regular face on BBC Scotland, Ryan McCuaig solicitor is often invited to comment on politics and social issues. Issues such as poverty, education, widening access and human rights.

Ryan will tell you his story and the techniques he learned along the way. What he did to develop a mindset which can overcome adversity. In doing so he will challenge you to look at your own potential and those around you.
