Broadcast Journalist, Presents ‘Reporting Scotland’, Former Presenter for Sunday Herald & STV Digital & Conference Host

Sarah McMullan is a Scottish news presenter and journalist. Having spent the past five years waking up Scottish audiences with their breakfast news; she is a well-known face in broadcasting. Currently she anchors the BBC’s Reporting Scotland at breakfast and lunchtime. She also regularly presents the main evening news, as well as BBC Scotland’s flagship current affairs programme, The Nine.

Early Days:
Sarah McMullan started regular reporting shifts with the Sunday Herald and STV digital. She did this while studying her Masters in Multimedia Journalism at Glasgow Caledonian University in 2017. It wasn’t long before Sarah turned her attention to broadcast news with a full-time production role in the STV newsroom. This quickly turned in to an on-screen position which saw her produce, edit, present and report across almost all of STV’s output at some point during her career there.

Sarah McMullan moved to the BBC in 2021 and is now part of their notable on-air team. As well as her presenting role she also reports on social affairs issues where time allows.

Hobbies:
Outside of work, Sarah loves music and going to concerts and festivals. Having lived in Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi for a year as an English teacher, she loves travelling and exploring new places. She never leaves the house without a book in her bag. Sarah McMullan is also an avid reader. She studied English Literature alongside politics at the University of Strathclyde, but her love affair with books started as a child.

Sarah McMullan dream job would be to present Desert Island Discs because it incorporates all her favourite things: music, books, travel and also interesting people with a good story.

Sarah would describe herself as warm, fun and even funny on occasions. She is someone who can easily shift between the light and the shade, as all good presenters should.
