Susan Calman used to be a corporate lawyer. However, in 2006 she decided to give it all up to be a comedian. She reached the semi-finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards and ‘So You Think You’re Funny’. In 2006 she was a finalist in the prestigious ‘Funny Women’ competition. She won ‘Best New Comedian’ at The Real Radio Scottish Variety Awards and Best MC at the Chortle awards in 2012.
In 2007 Susan was cast in ‘Ugly Kid’. This was a sketch show which was a sell-out at the Edinburgh Festival. Following critical acclaim, she was commissioned as a pilot for Channel 4. The show was renamed ‘Blowout’ and the cast went on to be awarded a Scottish BAFTA that same year.
Radio:
On Radio 4 Susan has appeared on The News Quiz, The Unbelievable Truth, Now Show, Dilemma and So Wrong it’s Right. She also presented Woman’s Hour. Susan regularly presented Macaulay and Co on Radio Scotland. She has even appeared on “And the Winner is” with Matt Lucas on BBC Radio2.
Sometimes Susan is allowed on television and has so far acted in How Not to Live your Life”, Rab C Nesbitt, Dead Boss and Fresh Meat. She’s also appeared on Have I Got News for You, QI (which she won), Don’t Sit In The Front Row, Comedy Rocks, Show and Tell and Comedy at the Fringe.

2016 saw Susan release her debut book, ‘Cheer Up Love – Adventures in Depression with the Crab of Hate’. This accomplished the incredible feat of Top 5 Amazon Bestseller on the first day of publication.

These have featured her travels around Scotland and a number of cruising programmes taking her much further afield. Susan named her little campervan, Helen Mirren.
