Former Hibernian Footballer & SPFA Chairman
Tony Higgins was born in 1954. He played for Hibernian FC during the late 70’s and 80’s during the time when George Best joined the team. Tony made 165 appearances for Hibs, during which time he scored 41 Goals.
In 1979 he played in one of the longest Scottish FA Cup matches with Hibs versus Rangers. It took three games in May that year to finally be defeated by Ranger 3-2.
He later became general secretary of the Players Union and chairman of the Scottish Professional Football Association (SPFA). Tony is now an occasional pundit on TV and radio and is a regular speaker on the after dinner and sporting dinner scene. He has remained with the SPFA and is currently their President.
