Hilarious After Dinner Speaker Known as ‘The Edinburgh Lawyer’ & MC For Hearts Football Club

Willie Hunter is a very funny after dinner speaker based in Edinburgh. He was one of the senior partners of the Edinburgh legal firm Gillespie Macandrew. A partner in charge of their estate agency department which still trades under his name, Hunters.

Willie is married to the long suffering Avril. He would say he has three children 25, 23 and 18 stupid names – but it was his wife’s idea. They are a bit older now.
He started speaking at dinners back in the days when the Dead Sea was only seriously ill. Willie Hunter has had the pleasure of sharing top tables with the likes of Rory Bremner, Ronnie Corbett, Andy Cameron and Elaine C Smith from the world of showbusiness. From the world of sport Willie has spoken with Bill McLaren, Ian Robertson, Jack Charlton and Tommy Docherty amongst others.

Burns Nights:

A superb Burns speaker, Willie Hunter has spoken at numerous Burns Suppers. He is also regularly asked to speak at St Andrews Night functions. These events and dinners have been as far afield as Amsterdam, Cairo and Abu Dhabi.

He has travelled all over the country in search of an audience that hasn’t heard him speak before and will travel long distances for a free meal.

In his youth Willie Hunter played nearly 250 games for Watsonians alongside the Hastings sisters Gavin and Scott. No lesser an authority than Bill McLaren stated that Willie would also have played for Scotland, if he had been a much, much better player than he was!!

He has been a lifelong supporter of Hearts but has retained a sense of humour despite that. On Saturdays he used to be found at Tynecastle Park where he was the resident MC in the main hospitality suite and took great pride in the fact that he was one of the few people who actually got paid for watching Hearts.
